'Cherry Peel', the first record from the chaotic twee mess that is Of Montreal, was originally released in 1999. With its psych-folk undertones and gleefully experimental take on pop music, it slotted right into Elephant 6's canon, fulfilling their golden rule -- music should explode all over the place. Now it's back on vinyl thanks to Bar-None.

9/10 Jack Customer review, 4th January 2015

Of Montreal's first album stands out amongst the group's extensive back catalogue. While singer/song writer Kevin Barnes has not clearly found his voice or established what would become of Montreal's signature sound and flamboyant aesthetic; the songs on Cherry Peel showcase an honest and confessional lyricism that of Montreal would not revisit until the highly regarded Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? released 10 years later. Album highlights include I Can't Stop Your Memory, Don't Ask Me To Explain and the heart-wrenching Montreal.
