Reissue of Marissa Nadler’s debut album from 2004. Now on the massive Sacred Bones imprint it’s good to look back at what brought Nadler to the point she is now. Darkened ballads of acoustic folk gently lull you in with carefully plucked guitars and ominous soundscapes filling in the gaps. Imagine Grouper with more structure and clarity.

7/10 Jack Customer review, 1st March 2018
Not sure what genre this comes under but it is moody stuff but also has melody which is often not the case with stuff like this. Grabs you even if you're not trying to listen to the lyrics. Web interviewer, when asking if her dark world ever allowed for humour: "Let's hear a Marrisa Nadler joke," he challenges her. She shyly protests the description, and that she does like jokes, and proceeds: "What did the bird say to the farmer?," "I dunno..." "Nothing-it was dead-the farmer ran over it with his tractor."
