Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes by TV On The Radio

Remember the first time you heard ‘Staring At The Sun’? Feels good doesn't it. You know, you can live the experience of listening to Pitchfork’s 41st-best song of the 2000s all over again if you want. The way to do that is by copping ‘Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes’, the 2004 debut LP by TV On The Radio. On this record ‘Staring At The Sun’ is just one of many bluesy, fuzzy, ‘OK Computer’-y things served up by Tunde Adebimpe, Dave Sitek and the rest.

First up TV On The Radio. The people that made the best record of the whole of last year with their sublime, sumptuous 'Young Liars' EP. Well they now have their debut LP available via the nice people at 4AD. Its called 'Desperate Youth Blood Thirsty Babes' which goes straight in at No 1 of the awful titles list but the music contained within is quite brilliant. How do I describe them? The vocalist sounds exactly EXACTLY like Peter Gabriel, there's Pixies like guitar and AR Kane noises fluttering about. It's art rock, it draws on gospel, soul, indie, barbershop and hip hop. They look brilliant.  This album maybe, maybe doesn't quite live up to the stunning 'Young Liars' but is still the most original thing I've heard for awhile. If you only buy one record ever buy 'Young Liars' but if you buy your fair share you must add this one to the pile. CD and Dbl Vinyl.
