VHF have just launched a crucial series of reissues of the music of Jack Rose, a major voice in experimental acoustic guitar music, both on his own and as a member of Pelt. Raag Manifestos was a 2004 limited edition tour release containing some of his fiercest explorations of the 12-string. What a delight to have this in print on vinyl again.

- Raag Manifestos by Jack Rose
7/10 Jack 6th October 2016
I don't think this is a very accessible work by Rose. For anyone that is more than a little familiar with John Fahey, Rose is surely one of the best modern interpreters of the Takoma/Fahey style. And this is arguably where Fahey was headed, at times. But I have to be in the right "mood" (meditative or outright mind-altered) to hang with this entire album. Nonetheless, Rose's technique is outstanding, and again, his playing of the 12 string is fresh. Go to the label site and check out more of Rose's releases.
