Second album from alternative rock stalwarts, Pixies. Doolittle is like when you see something disgusting, and you’re brain can’t quite decide if you want to keep looking at it and show it to everyone you know, or shut your eyes and hope it goes away. Surreal, catchy, dirty, noisy and really, really good.

Holy fuck, what a record. Absolutely blew my mind when I first heard this as a kid, and the twenty-odd years that have passed since have done nothing whatsoever to alter that. Easily one of the greatest alt-rock records ever made, packed with timeless classics like Gouge Away, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Debaser, Wave Of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man.....The only thing that stops this getting 10/10 for me is Dave Lovering's La La Love You, which is, frankly, fucking awful, and even that one's alright until he starts singing. This is truly the stuff of legends, and it's still worthy of every bit of praise that's lavished upon it.

I do prefer Surfer Rosa to Doolittle but there is less than a cigarette paper between them. This album is still a great one and contains three of their best songs, "Debaser", "Here Comes Your Man" and "Monkey Gone To Heaven". The Pixies were still at the height of their powers when they made this, but sadly this was their last great album.
