8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 2nd November 2014
“The Headphone Masterpiece” is a paradoxical lo-fi R&B album that sprawls through 36 tracks on two discs. Cody ChesnuTT recorded his debut on a four-track recorder which gave his soulful leanings an original twist. Guided By Voices having a stab at Al Green or Marvin Gaye songs, if you like. My love of lo-fi music makes me love this. To give this more credence, “The Seed” was covered by The Roots. There is the odd Americana-ish track on here too such as “My Women, My Guitars”. The two stand-out tracks for me are “Eric Burdon” and “Upstarts in a Blow Out”. This is worth buying, because there’s nothing else like it, really.
