7/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 23rd November 2014

On “At Dawn”, My Morning Jacket have added an ethereal quality to their country-rock sound, which to me has made them more interesting than out-and-out country rockers Drive-By Truckers for example. The ethereal sound does suit Jim James’ voice very well and it’s something that they made more of a feature of future albums. The songs are longer than on their debut “The Tennessee Fire” too. “At Dawn” is their second album, so they do make giant leaps after this in my opinion with “It Still Moves” which contained on of their best songs “One Big Holiday”.

The songs on here are good. “The Lowdown” and “Death is the Easy Way” are the best. The latter is reminiscent of Neil Young at his most fragile. “Just Because I Do” adds a nice bit of southern rock swagger.
