Fourth studio album from Carolina-based indie rock band Portastatic. Fronted by Superchunk's Mac McCaughan, the band started off as a side project then steadily progressed to a fully fledged band. McCaughan stated that 'The Summer of the Shark' was intended as a concept albm about 9/11. Originally released in 2003 on Merge Records.

9/10 Jack Customer review, 17th December 2015
This is the album where Portastatic officially became Mac McCaughan's "first" band and no longer a side-project, and it shows. Portastatic's first few CD releases were either very low-fi or experimental. And although I really liked all three, it is nice to hear a Portastatic album that is "full-band". There are some definite stand-out tracks here (namely "Oh Come Down", "In the Lines", "Chesapeake", "Noisy Night"). In my opinion, this is the best album he has probably made. So go for it I say - pick this up!
