6/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 31st October 2014

I've always considered Tahiti 80 to be a kind soft power pop band. Brilliant songs like “Hey Joe” from their “Puzzle” LP certainly fit into that category. “Wallpaper For The Soul” is the follow-up to “Puzzle” and after the first couple of tracks I didn’t really know what to think. It opens with the title track which is okay, if perhaps a little bland. This is followed by “1000 Times” which is some awful disco type thing that makes me think of Tavares. Then we get “Separate Ways” which is good, more the kind of thing I was expecting. “Get Yourself Together” is good too, a little rockier than anything else so far. It would be too easy to compare them at this point to a more melodic version of Phoenix due to them being French, so I won’t do that. “Happy End” would appeal to fans of The High Llamas and is one of the album’s stand out tracks. “Soul Deep” is a bit “Wake Up Boo!” It’s a bit too average overall. “Puzzle” was good and this is disappointing.
