As for this weeks releases....first up a couple of things on Elsie & Jack a curiously odd and interesting label based partly in Hartlepool on the north east coast of England . A town whose people once hung a monkey thinking it was a french spy. I mean you can forgive them for this it was many years ago and they didn't have much idea of what the french looked like. Unfortunately a couple of years ago they also managed to elect a monkey as town mayor. To be precise it was a man in a monkey's suit but still ...it takes some doing. Anyway the first release we have from Elsie & Jack is by The Iditarod and Sharron Kraus. This sounds like really old folk music with a kind of medieval quality. Definately less accessible and more traditional sounding than the Iditarod's other work but mighty good and completely out of step with todays pop scene. I mean you wouldn't hear The Sugarbabes singing about oxen would you. Would you? Yuletide is CD only
