8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 22nd February 2015

"Have You Fed The Fish?" is the second proper studio album by Badly Drawn Boy, that is if you don't count the soundtrack he did to "About A Boy". I regard it as his follow up to "The Hour Of Bewilderbeast". So, to follow-up such a commercial and critical success was going to be difficult but I like what he's done. There's certainly a confidence about the proggy intro and anthemic title track. The album has more of a rock edge than anything he'd done previously. It was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Tom Rothrock. He produced "Figure 8" by Elliott Smith and this album has a similar sheen - listen to "Born Again" and compare the sound and arrangement to Elliott Smith's "L.A." The instrumentation of "40 Days, 40 Fights" is also reminiscent of "Figure 8". "All Possibilities" has a similar disco thing going on as "Disillusion" from his debut album, this time with slick strings and L.A. production. "You Were Right" was the first single taken from the album and is up there with any of his indie-pop gems. "What Is It Now?" is another standout track and features backing vocals by Charlotte Gainsbourg.
