Remember Q and Not U? Well they were a short-lived post hardcore band out of Washington who released three albums, the second of which was Different Damage released in 2002. It was a more stripped back take on their complex math rock sound following the departure of bassist Matt Borlik. The band mixed edgy guitar riffing to danceable beats using just a duel guitar and drums line-up.

Different Damage by Q And Not U

Also worth a hearty mention this week is the newie from Washington's Q and not U, an album on Dischord called 'Different Damage' which is a proper grower. Like a stripped down and funky party version of Fugazi (obvious mention-sorry!) they play wiry disco punk with intelligent lyrics which should appeal to fans of the Rapture or Les Savy Fav.. Very tight and catchy with blatant hardcore roots and arrangements yet adding a refreshing slant to a tired genre in need of a boost. Way cool.
