An awesome reissue of Mr Lif’s debut album I Phantom. Originally on El-P’s now defunct Def Jux imprint it features many of the key players including El-P himself, Aesop Rock, and Vast Aire. If you’ve missed out on anything to do with Def Jux, this is a good place to start, showcasing leftfield hip-hop done well. There certainly aren’t many concept hip-hop albums around.

8/10 Jack Customer review, 19th December 2015

It's always exciting when an artist makes an ambitious concept album, because chances are it'll be an interesting mess, but if you're lucky then it'll be a cohesive masterpiece. This is a concept album at its best, Mr. Lif critiques society's values, morals, and priorities. He takes the listener on a journey from the average person to a wannabe rapper to successful businessman to enlightened individual. We also hear about other ordinary people at the end of the world. The beats are generally pretty good with only a couple feeling more average.
