Original review from 2007. I can't believe I wrote this. In fact I don't think I did.
First up is the ESG album on Soul Jazz and it's their 1st
new album in 20 years from what we can tell. For the uninitiated they're
a seminal early 80's minimalist funk outfit who used to be on Factory
for a while and their track UFO has been sampled by everyone. Somewhere
between early A Certain Ratio and the early 80's New York scene
ala Liquid Liquid. The Rapture wouldn't
be around today if it weren't for these ladies. Surprisingly this is one
we all like here and we rarely get records we all like. I've pretty much
summed up what's it like already. It's extremely fine anyway and I'd strongly
recommend checking them out. The dbl vinyl is super ltd as well
apparently..... Step Off is excellent
