Among My Swan is the perfect middle ground between the Velvets-style rock n roll of their first record She Hangs Brightly and the spare, atmospheric acoustics of their second So Tonight That I May See. Flowers In December is a lovely little pop song and the hymnal Look On Down From the Bridge, which closes the album, is one of the best songs they ever did. The real highlight though is Take Everything, a slow-burning classic featuring some great guitar work from one of the Reed brothers, whose spirit looms large over much of Mazzy Star's best work. Great for fans of the Velvet Underground, Jesus and Mary Chain, the Warlocks etc.

8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 22nd February 2015

I think Mazzy Star's best two albums are behind them. Their debut "She Hangs Brightly" and their masterpiece "So Tonight That I Might see". Their third album, "Among My Swan" kind of occupies a place just below those in quality, however it's still a good album and their sound has become more accomplished. "Flowers In December" was the single that preceded the album and is one of the strongest tracks. It glides along a bit like a "Harvest Moon" era Neil Young song. "I've Been Let Down" is a lovely, country-ish ballad. "Take Everything" is the absolute standout track on here for me. As you'd expect from Mazzy Star, everything on here is super slow but if you give it the time it will reward you.
