The Pearlfishers - as we stated in our review of their recent Love & Other Hopeless Things LP  - are possibly Scotland's best kept secret. Their songwriting recalls 60s greats such as Brian Wilson and the Byrds but it seems barely anyone has heard of them.  Here is a re-issue of their debut LP originally slated for RSD15. Not sure why we have copies suddenly appear but here they are  - and we should all be grateful.

The Strange Underworld Of The Tall Poppies by The Pearlfishers

9/10 Jack 19th April 2015

The Pearlfishers, from Glasgow, are an alternative pop band with retro influences from the late sixties and early seventies. They are perhaps the most melodic band ever! Their intelligent lyrics, combined with strong melodic hooks, interesting chord progressions and tempo changes result in ultimate "ear candy." Their music generally remains warm, sunny and infectious even in the midst of their occasional, "dark" lyrics. And in spite of their musical influences, The Pearlfishers maintain their distinctive sound!
