Red House Painters were the sort of band you locked yourself in your house over a three month period and listened to obsessively. Well that's what i did. This was the first of their two self titled records (most commonly known as 'Bridge'). It sees Mark Kozelek start to perfect his the Smiths-at-16rpm slo-mo sound and contains some beautiful songs such as Uncle Joe. Ah gorgeous and utterly, utterly wonderfully miserable.

I've kind of immersed myself in the Red House Painters over the last few months so I can compare this one pretty confidently to the others. I'll say that this is equal to anything they've done and possibly my favourite. If you like these guys at all, do yourself a favour and pick this one up. Call their music dream pop, indie rock, alternative - whatever you like. Point is this band has something to say. Tunes I got the most out of were "Bubble", their cover of Paul Simon's "I Am A Rock", the uplifting "New Jersey" and "Uncle Joe".
