Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s excellent second album, first released back in 2000. Awing in its scope and ambition, and uniquely optimistic and joyful within the band’s discography. I’ll never forget when I first heard the trumpets creeping in during ‘Storm’, or on ‘Sleep’ where a New Yorker fondly remembers Coney Island at its peak. Truly special.

Sometimes I think of ways to describe Godspeed You! Black Emperor to friends, yet I don't think I have ever been able too. The Sounds and themes I believe are to be truly felt and just cannot be labelled or described close enough with just words, Lift Your Skinny Fists Up Like Antennas To Heaven is to be experienced. Once you listen to this record there is no going back.

Post Rock is often described as life affirming but I'm not really sure if GY!BE can be placed in this category or described as Post Rock music at all, I'm not even sure what they are, I mean it is music that can never be recreated, it is the sound of many bodies communicating in a unseen musical conversation so private and mysterious yet i so focused and seductive, the name and length of the tracks are the only thing I am certain on, and the only information I can submit to the ready ear of my comrade as truth. When the sound starts the instruments start talking exchanging textures and sounds, tempos change, levels move, voices come and go Silence is heard then a defining roar is discovered, brushed under the carpet and delicately pulled back from the brink this time unannounced dressed differently and swaying to the rhythm of your thoughts. When the cacophony finally finishes It leaves unexpectedly, your reluctant mind still racing in an imagined world where this music lives, but now joined by your own thoughts past memories and personal happiness.

I can't tell you if this is good 'music', but only that this has changed me and continues to make me a better person.

9/10 Jack Customer review, 11th January 2015

There aren't many post-rock bands that can make music with themes of the apocalypse and new world order and not sound contrived or 'over the top'. The Canadian geniuses of Godspeed You! Black Emperor are back after the dark, lucid eruption of F# A# Infinity with the somewhat more optimistic soundscapes on their sophomore release Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven. Track 1 "Storm" sounds almost like an Angels & Airwaves song as it builds with an intensity unseen in previous output. It may not have the same impact as F# A# Infinity but it's an amazing album none-the-less.
