The album that catapulted Sigur Ros from the obscurity of 'Von' into international stardom, world tours, BBC tie ins and a string of hugely successful albums. Before the icy bleakness of '( )', this sees the band full of hope and wonder. Massive sounding, richly orchestrated post-rock executed in vivid style.

Please dear readers, take no notice of the above review. 'Ágætis Byrjun' is one of the most beautiful things in existence; you enter the album like a dream as the album's second track "Svefn-g-englar", which roughly translates to "Sleepwalkers" from the band's native Icelandic, plays. I urge you to seek this album out -- it changed how I view instrumental music and made me asking for more.

5/10 Andrew Johnson 12th October 2013

Mogwai fronted by Stanley Unwin. I thought of this review about 7 years ago, but I've only just remembered to send it. In no way is this a slight on Mogwai. They account for 100% of my laughable PRS payments.
