A re-issue on Third Man Records for New Grass, the 1968 album from American avant-garde jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler. Misunderstood critically and popularly at the time of its release, it mixed jazz, regarded as a high art form in American pop, with soul, then in its comparative infancy and thought of as lowbrow. More than 50 years later, its solid grooves and innovative arrangements still seem relevant.
