Marking the 50th anniversary of its release, Jimi Hendrix’s often-overlooked Band of Gypsys live album gets a re-issue on dark red marble vinyl. Recorded with a new line-up with Buddy Miles on drums and Billy Cox on bass over two live performances on New Year’s Day 1970 at the Fillmore East, this edition is remastered from analogue tapes courtesy of Hendrix’s engineer Eddie Kramer.

It’s perfectly ok for this to be your favourite Jimi Hendrix album even if it does feature a really famous jazz drummer.
He’s famous for the reason he’s really good and so a very suitable sparring partner for Jimi. Hendrix's playing is drawn to another level on this live set and with someone to share the load he turns in a fine vocal performance too. The rendition of 'Machine Gun' is worth the price of admission on its own but the whole set is strong and tight. It probably helps to have a bass player who takes direction too.
