If you put the blues in one end of The Groundhogs they blend it with hard rock to create some sort of proto-punk sound out of the other. The classic rock band, led by Tony McPhee, released Split in 1971. It was their fourth album, but more importantly, the second in a trio of incredible albums that also included Thank Christ For The Bomb (1970) and Who Will Save The World? (1972). It includes the song Cherry Red, which is where the name of the classic indie record label came from. Seminal stuff.
