Sasu Ripatti recently re-emerged with a scorching album as Vladislav Delay on Cosmo Rhythmatic, a vinyl reissue of Chain Reaction classic ‘Multilla’ and now this mesmerising, neon-lit, fathoms DEEP house gem comes back around.

‘Vocalcity’ was originally released on Force Inc. sister label Force Tracks back in 2020. Like ‘Multilla’, it compiled tracks which first appeared on separate 12”s, namely; ‘Native’, ‘Livingston’ and ‘Carter’. His work under this handle was a fairly radical departure from Mr Ripatti’s previous abstracted dubby ambient techno work. Basically, Luomo is to Vladislav Delay what the Main Street stuff is to Basic Channel. If you’ve never heard this album, you’re in for a treat - six long tracks, each luxuriously cut across a full side of wax, back in print to celebrate 20 years since it was released, and it still sounds absolutely sublime.

All the elements just gel so perfectly - the economically deployed male and female vocal refrains, infectious basslines, crisp percussion, dissolving celestial melodies, the effortlessly immersive grooves, positive energy, late-night uplifting vibes and subtle air of melancholy. It ticks every box that’s a prerequisite of the purest, timeless house music.

Think of the sleek minimal house of Baby Ford, Ifach, PAL-SL, Trelik, Thomas Melchior, Perlon, Villalobos, Akufen, Ion Ludwig etc. shot through with the crystalline dub elements of Main Street, Maurizio and the soul of Ron Trent. The way in which the six cuts build and blossom over their extended durations is pure hypnosis. Eternal classic… House music all night long!
