I find the idea of a Giant Swan lurching towards me rather scary. However, if you like your dance tracks (trax?) to be banging then look no further than their new full-on assault, and the wonderfully named, 55 Year-Old Daughter. Here we have the extended mix, which is essential wax for any record box. Their first new music since last years’ eponymous debut album and support slots with IDLES.

To start off with, I’d like to congratulate Giant Swan on writing one of the most beautiful series of words in the English language. Giant Swan - 55 Year Old Daughter (Extended Mix). Now that is stupendous, so rich with imagery. Thank you Giant Swan.

And if I were the DJing sort (I’m not), I’d also be thankful for the track itself. ‘55 Year Old Daughter’ was the opening track to their self-titled album, and boy what an opener. Chopped up manic vocals are a warning of what’s to come. It’s gonna be aggy, and it’s gonna be fun. The pair then introduce all twisted bass and fucked up drums that lurch around like unfastened ballast on the shipdeck. The kind of track that could probably start a mosh pit in a club.

And the extended mix? Well it’s a healthy minute and a half longer, the vast majority of that being a DJ friendly outro that calms things down a bit so you can mix it out without suffering a heart attack. Very kind!

The b-side is a lovely etching of a marijuana leaf, the letters ‘g’ and ‘s’, the wifi symbol, and the words ‘FUCK’ and ‘OFF’. I suppose that last one would be their answer if you asked why they only pressed one song to a 12”. That said, sometimes a song is good enough to merit it’s only slice of wax, and ‘55 Year Old Daughter’ might be one such song.
