Norwegian band Kvelertak have signed with Rise Records for their fourth album, Splid, which translates to Discord in English. The band run the gamut of guitar music from good ol’ rock and roll to black metal via punk rock. Let’s just say hey like to make a racket. The new album explores how stupid and greedy the human race have been and wonders where it will all end. Recorded with Kurt Ballou in Massachusetts.

Kvelertak say that their new album "is a deep dive into western gluttony, our own stupidity, and the abyss of the earth", "influenced by a world in discord to accompany our way towards Ragnarok." I mean, with quotations that good what am I even doing here? I'll press on but my lord, why aren't more press releases like that?
Unfortunately, I'm not sure that the LP itself really lives up to these lofty claims. Although it's pretty heavy in places, it still feels a bit poppy. There are nods to black- and speed-metal, with some nice razor-wire guitar and screamed vocals, but it mostly has the feel of metalcore or particularly heavy alternative rock.
Maybe the press released juiced me up but I was a bit disappointed with this album. I like 'Fanden ta dette hull!' which has a chunky AC/DC feel, but for the most part this album passes without incident.
