Pharoah Sanders, a free jazz tenor sax player, has played with John and Alice Coltrane. In 1994 He hooked up with Gnawa musician, singer and guembri player Maleem Mahmoud Ghania in Morocco for a different kind of musical adventure. Gnawa is an ancient Moroccan music mixing African Islamic spiritual religious songs and rhythms. The Trance Of Seven Colors is regarded as one of the best examples of Gnawa music.
