Isobel Campbell started out in Belle & Sebastian before recording under the name The Gentle Waves. She has also released three critically acclaimed albums with Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. Her new solo album, There Is No Other… has been a while in coming, but Campbell says she likes to take her time and do things properly. The speed that the world is moving makes her want to take more time over the things she loves.

Delightful dreamy Scottish Indie music from former Belle and Sebastian vocalist, Isobel Campbell after a 14 year hiatus.
These songs a lush, but delicate, light and gentle. Simple bongo / percussion layered with warm bass tones and acoustic 12 & 6 string guitars. Track 8 ('The National Bird Of India') has a delightful wistful violin refrain, much akin to various Taken By Trees tracks from 'East of Eden'.
Quite a few of the tracks remind me of Best Girl Athlete's sound and songwriting approach. The innocent whimsy does invoke feelings of endless summer evenings, with a sense of relaxation and carefree youthfulness. The dreaminess of these tracks is beautiful, never dropping into "twee" - it's a great return from Isobel. I'm glad I bought it for my wife, as I'd happily listen to this in the car on loop.
