Seeking Thrills by Georgia

Georgia Barnes, better known simply as Georgia caused a stir back in 2015 with her self-titled debut. Seeking Thrills is her latest album, a dancefloor focused album that aims to kick off 2020 with some pop-punch. If you’ve heard her recent single, About Work The Dancefloor (included here), it gives you a good idea of the vibe on this album. Also includes the single, Never Let You Go.

Georgia has released her second album 'Seeking Thrills'. It's a bold sophomore effort from the North London producer.

There are a few bangers on Georgia's second album, such as 'Feel It', 'Ray Guns', and 'Honey Dripping Sky'. They're all superb cuts taking the best elements of modern pop like the syncopated calypso rhythms and ticking hi-hats, and channeling them into a really interesting mix. I also love the hands-aloft house-lite of 'Started Out'; the "I don't wanna lose you" refrain is celestially brilliant.

It's a bit anoying, then, that I think parts of this album sink into saccharine synth-pop mediocrity. Four really good songs on an album is a pretty good ratio, but I think there's a weirder element to Georgia that could be teased out a bit more. There's a song she did in 2015 called 'Kombine' that's full of down-pitched vocals and grinding metallic textures, plus a killer hook, and I'd love to hear a development of this sound. There are little snatches of interesting sound design during the beginnings of songs on this record that are sadly soon buried away.

Still, there's much to enjoy about 'Seeking Thrills' and I can't wait to hear what she does next. I just plead it sounds like Björk and not Björn and Benny...
