The Groundhogs formed as a blues band in the early 60s. By 1970 when their third album, 'Thank Christ For The Bomb', was recorded, they were morphing into a heavier prog rock band. It has been cited as proto-punk, proto-grunge and as "a masterpiece’ by the NME. The album has a diverse set of famous fans from the Damned’s Captain Sensible, Underworld’s Karl Hyde and former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus whose solo work takes a trick or two from here.
