The fourth LP from Christopher Tignor is another set of intricate modern chamber music. On A Light Below strings dance across one another in a manner that recalls Ravel and Shostakovich, but the use of processed electronics, percussion and triggered synths gives the album a distinctly contemporary edge. Think Owen Pallett crossed with someone like Nils Frahm or Oneohtrix Point Never.

This is a way down the road for Christopher Tignor and his experimental violin, software and tuning fork combination. It's his 4th solo LP, and the 3rd using his unique process - the sounds he evokes are equally life affirming and heart breaking, a little like seeing your pet tripping up your child's first steps.
This is a great record, it takes time, but reveals more as you listen to it, and good on headphones. It's only not a 10/10 as I assisted with the layout of the cover. Recommended to fans of Steve Reich, Julia Kent, Loscil, Brian McBride, Deaf Center, Eluvium, Colleen, Grouper, etc... you know who you are.
