Luke Lund makes music for the modern world, interested as he is in AI and deepfakes. His new EP is a mixture of vicious electronic textures, bouts of white noise, and what sounds like synthesized heavy machinery. It's not for the faint-of-heart, but if you enjoy being unsettled then go buy 'Pattern Recognition'. Out on Conditional

It really feels like we’re at a point in human history where science fiction is now our reality. If we’re not already in it, then a full-on Orwellian dystopia is probably only just around the corner. Technology has always been something of a double-edged sword, but we’re now at a point where things have become so advanced that we’ll soon be living in scenarios from films like A.I. Artificial Intelligence, I Robot, THX 1138 etc. Terrifying right?

I don’t even wanna think about it, and yet here I am listening to a tape by Luke Lund which is erm… unsettling to say the least. Honestly, this music had me breathless - literally gasping for air imagining that I was anaesthetized on a surgical steel table and being subjected to a series of tests by machines which had taken over the human race. Nightmare scenes of transhumanism where my body was being modified by droids -- I had literally become slave to the machine.

This is one of those albums where you just forget you’re actually listening to music, how it’s been composed etc. and it just thrusts you through a crack in space and time and spits you out somewhere in the future.

Grade A+ sound design, generative/electronic music that’s had me more paranoid than smoking a truckload of ganja. Proper Terminator shit.
