In many ways a reissue of Satoshi Ashikawa’s 1982 LP Still Way (Wave Notation 2) is what WRWTFWW Records have been building to ever since they set up shop in the early 2010’s. Ashikawa’s spare, dreamlike environmental music has had a profound impact on the label’s output - it can be heard in everything from WRWTFWW’s reissues of Midori Takada and Mkwaju Ensemble to their recent set from Gareth Quinn Redmond. Taking cues from Brian Eno and Erik Satie, Ashikawa’s ultra-minimalist ambiences "intended to be listened to in a casual manner, as a musical landscape or a sound object”. Put on Still Way and let it melt into the background.
