Earth Rot Instrumentals by David Axelrod

The plush compositional style that the late David Axelrod laid down in the 1960’s still exerts great influence on popular music. His way with orchestral arrangements - post-Library, proto-Lynchian - is instantly recognisable when it crops up in the work of everyone from Adrian Younge to Tyler, The Creator. It makes sense, then, that someone thought to strip out all the vocals and just focus on Axelrod’s instrumentals. 1970’s Earth Rot, a LP in which Axelrod started to explore jazz further than on his previous records, is the lucky album this time around.
