Although he turned 50 earlier this year, In, Demons, In! shows that the legendary Jim O’Rourke has no intention of slowing down his prodigious life-long output any time soon. A collaboration of earthy drone with fellow experimentalist CM Von Hausswolff, the creative rivers are flowing very freely.

- In, Demons, In! by Jim O’Rourke & CM von Hausswolff
It’s pretty obvious why Jim O’Rourke and CM von Hausswolff have titled this work ‘In, Demons, In!’ So beware! Hitting play on this is an invocation... like opening a portal, a gateway from the netherworld directly into your home and letting dark forces inside to toil and torment.
For sure, there’s an ominous drone thing happening here ala Kevin Drumm, Thomas Köner’s glacial isolationist works and a similar hovering in a vacuum vibe to Nurse With Wound’s ‘Space Music’. But outside of the droning intergalactic weather system vibe that forms the surface, as this record unfurls, it’s filled with a tangible presence as though SETI were receiving communications from a distant galaxy. Something is living, breathing and shifting inside - like the cybernetic music of Roland Kayn. However, it feels as though the duo have tapped into something that feels genuinely paranormal - something CM von Hausswolff has tuned into on previous occasions. The man is, after all, something of an expert in EVP (electronic voice phenomena) and the work of researcher Friedrich Jürgenson who claimed to have detected voices of the dead hidden in radio static. If these are voices or souls communicating - they certainly don’t feel human to me - more like some massive terrifying prehistoric mutant shark.
