Gobstopper label founder Mr. Mitch offers up a slice of bonkers and maddeningly infectious future-dancehall for the Pressure label, presented on a blue-and-yellow spatter vinyl run of 300 copies. ‘Not Modular’ is also tweaked for two remixes from Kevin Martin, a.k.a. ‘The Bug’, on the flip side.

Around about 1999-2000 a bunch of 7"s outta Jamaica on a label called Acid Rain Records, produced by The Hot Ice Crew found their way into my world and blew my mind. Tunes like Spragga Benz & Foxy Brown ‘Too Stoosh’ and Mega Banton 'Jigga 4 Life'. This was Acid Dancehall - riddims utilizing the TB-303 and the first and last time I heard tracks in this mode until The Bug’s shortlived Acid Ragga label around 2012.
This suitably "acid" splatter vinyl 12” from Gobstopper bossman Mr. Mitch woulda fitted nicely on the Acid Ragga label - even the blue and yellow artwork mirrors the aesthetic of the three 7”s it spawned. Driven by phat congas and sharp snares, it’s great fun this tune - like if Phuture woulda been recording in digital era Prince Jammy’s. The demented, trippy, chirping avian bleeping also has something of a proto-B-boy thing in there - leaving traces of GrandMixer DXT’s seminal scratching on Herbie Hancock's classic ‘Rockit’ echoing in my brain.
The Bug drags it down into the dirt on his booming ‘Straight Mix’ which is just pure trademark The Bug carnage. His ‘Raw Mix’ drags it even lower, beyond the dirt and through the sewers until we hit the bottom of the ocean floor where it dissolves into the murk. Can you handle the PRESSURE?
