Whom among us hasn’t at some point thought or said the phrase Death To False Motorik at some point in the last decade? Too many groups lazily chucking a watered-down Klaus Dinger beat onto their basic indie sound. But not vert:x! Their album is committed to the infinite forward-motion of the motorik sound, with plenty of noisy Stoogey guitar action too.

- Death To False Motorik by vert:x
Noisy, fast, with lots of lange gerade beats, 'Death To False Motorik' by vert:x is like Ron Asheton fronting NEU!. I love the slavish adherence to the motorik beat on this record. Each track is fast and noisy, with that classical Düsseldorf sound. It's nice to hear a drum machine on 'Fix 4', it shows that vert:x aren't completely in thrall to bands like NEU! and Faust; Klaus Dinger (drummer of NEU!) was famously opposed to drum machines.
I think, however, that this album is better in its quietest moments, the noisy tracks like 'Clus' seem a little cack-handed when compared to 'Fix 4' which is really rather good. It's nicely restrained and more drum machine is always a good move. All the noisier tracks are just variations on a theme and grow a little boring towards the end. The songs would be twice as good if the drums sounded more natural. They sound overly treated and a little plastic. All that said, however, 'Death to False Motorik' is still a visceral music experience you can lose yourself in.
