The new-ish Editions Gravats offshoot Le Disques De La Bretagne has already served up a few slices of left-field Reggaeton from the likes of Clara! And Low Jack. Now it’s the turn of King Doudou (stop sniggering) to bring the heat. On ‘Novinho’/‘Tremendo Bumbum’ the former Mixpak/Mad Decent fellow turns in some Latin futuro-bass along the lines of Florentino. MC Buseta and Kaydy Cain guest.

Novinha / Tremendo Bumbum by King Doudou

8/10 Ant Staff review, 25 April 2019

Every plate thus far on the Les Disques De La Bretagne wing of Low Jack’s Editions Gravats has been a certified party bomb without exception. King Doudou’s (aka French DJ and producer Hugo Douster) ‘Novinha / Tremendo Bumbum’ does little to break that tradition.

‘Novinha’ comes like a Baile Funk, Reggaeton and Drill hybrid strain that spews forth some serious bass weight, cut through with piercing, razor-sharp snares and Kaydy Cain and MC Buseta taking control of the mic.

‘Tremendo Bumbum’ has a fierce whip cracking rhythm and bangs hard ala Dizzee’s ‘I Luv U’ and features just MC Buseta. I’m not convinced I should be listening to music with autotune vox at my age though - it feels a bit wrong and too much like music my kids listen to. Still, it’s a great track. My personal preference are the properly useful, highly contagious instrumental versions of each track - both solid, heavy neck snappers. Les Disques De La Bretagne can do no wrong!
