Orpheus Variations by Alvin Lucier

Alvin Lucier here continues to compose for the excellent cellist Charles Curtis. Orpheus Variations is drawn from a sonority from a Stravinsky piece, though presented here in rather more abstract context. Curtis’ cello weaves through a seven-part wind ensemble (here, the SEM Ensemble conducted by Petr Kotik), creating amazing waveform effects in that unique Lucier style. Out on Important Records.
