Third solo album from Pavement co-founder and guitarist Scott Kannberg, known professionally as Spiral Stairs. Recorded with a number of previous collaborators, including members of the short-lived Preston School of Industry, We Wanna Be Hyp-No-Tized promises some of the most immediately accessible music of Kannberg’s career.

New album from The One Out Of Pavement No-one Gives A Shit About. Actually that's cruel. We could be looking at a Bob Nastanovich album here (lock up your daughters!) The opening track is a sort of Iggy Pop like thing that is as far away from Pavement as it's possible to get with a Lust For Life type melody and a shoutalong chorus. Not what I was expecting from the man who made that Preston School of Industry album we all forgot about.
So there's a lot of Pavement mid-life crises going on at the moment. But Stairs just wanna have fun so he's concocted a batch of upbeat bar room guitar pop that defines workmanlike. Stuff like Diarlo reminds me a lot of the Hold Steady. It has that middle-aged-man-sat-in-a-bar-ruminating-on-life type thing going on. Checking out the young girl working behind the bar - thinking of saying something but deciding better of it.
It all makes me rather sad. I mean, fucking Pavement man. But he's passing the time and enjoying himself.
