Los Angeles based Com Truise returns to Ghostly International for his follow up to 2017’s Iteration. This mini LP see the producer take a re-approach to his craft, taking a fresh palette of sounds and techniques whilst retaining his signature 80s/VHS warmth, and of course the Linn Drum is still highly prevalent.

Persuasion System by Com Truise

Ah, the classic celebrity name switcheroo. We've got Joy Orbison, .ill Gates, and of course, Com Truise. Com's released his fourth album and it's a mixture of chunky synth-pop, electronica, and plenty of analogue stylings. I love the slow tempos of a few songs on this record. Titular track 'Persuasion System' has this lovely slow, lolloping groove like a racehorse on valium. 'Gaussian', too, has all kinds of blissed-out ambience and perfectly washy synths. Imagine Eno using Ableton pad sounds. For a modern-sounding record, I can still make comparisons to classic 80s stuff like OMD or even Soft Cell. I was also really reminded of the Stranger Things soundtrack (let it never be said that Norman Records is not at the vanguard of popular culture). There's definitely a slightly spooky, cinematic tone to 'Persuasion System'.

The best tracks are also among the heaviest. 'Kontex' and 'Existence Schematic' both marry some hectic percussion and deep bass stabs, as well as including some mild flirtation with dubstep and DnB. Com Truise has created a varied record here which I commend him for. He's used imperious drum machines, semi-soulless sounding synthesizers, and big pad sounds to make a wholly engaging record.
