The Cool Greenhouse strip all the meatiest bits from Swell Maps, Pere Ubu and The Fall, leaving just the essence to create their sound and it is all underpinned, just, by a Casio keyboard. Over the two tracks of Landlords/4Chan they’ll tell you, in their own humorous way, about the nightmare of renting and put you in the shoes of an internet troll. 7” on Drunken Sailor.

- Landlords / 4Chan by The Cool Greenhouse
I enjoyed the previous the Cool Greenhouse 7" somewhat but this one is an absolute stonker. Landlords is near perfect avant pop which hits you square in the eye between the Normal and the Fall. It has a squeaky DIY sound with repetitive guitar riff and drum machine. Over the top is a vocal rant something like a relatively polite Mark E Smith. Words you see? Interesting words, humorous, thought provoking, surreal.
Overleaf is another slab of dark lo-fi wit. Hints once again of the Fall in the repetitive riffs but vocals more in a Momus style and full of arch observations. Peel would have slathered over this. It's brilliant. You have to buy it - it's cheered up my entire day.
