A new Death Is Not The End tape is always something to get excited about, but when you learn that the label’s latest drop is a new instalment of their If I Had A Pair Of Wings: Jamaican Doo Wop series then the anticipation ramps up even further. Following on from 2018’s Volume 1, this release is another collection of tunes cut in Jamaica during the late 50’s and early 60’s. With ska and roots yet to fully take hold, sounds from the U.S. - r&b, early soul, doo wop - are given a Kingston twist by artists like Prince Buster. As is often the case with reissues via Death Is Not The End, many of the cuts here have a deliciously haunted vibe about them.
