Any of us who have tried to find anything innovative in the world of indie/guitar pop of late know that all the true innovation is happening in hip-hop. Last year Czarface collaborated with chief mumbler MF Doom and have now gone head to head with Wu Tang ranter Ghostface Killah. The latter is sounding unusually non-phoned in on these tracks, bursts of lyrical enthusiasm bursts through the speakers. The music is a kind of horror soundtrack-influenced electronic pulse, lots of synth based loops and eerie dislocated sounds. Czarcade 87 is a standout with a delicious bass riff circling round some muffled beats and spooky synth sounds. The two vocalists exchanging lines as if recorded on the street with a hastily plugged in microphone.

I'd describe the style here as 'intelligent thug'. There's not much prettiness but the blitzkreig delivery matches nicely with the eerie synth soundscapes.

CZARFACE has delivered an immaculate and fantastic album from start to finish. there's not a single track on this i didn't like because the whole project is fire. 7L & Esoteric & Inspectah Deck are perfect match. this is their best work since Every Hero Needs a Villain. i've got nothing else indepth to say about this project except for the fact that i love this album and definitely album of the year along with Malibu Ken. the replay value for this LP is extremely high for me on all sorts of levels.
