Karl O'Connor AKA Regis & James Ruskin are back at it as O/V/R with their first outing under the handle since 2016’s ‘Easy Prey’ 12” on Ruskin’s Blueprint label. ‘The World Remade’ is aimed straight at the ‘floor with pure menace and has something of classic Regis in its springing bassline. It’s constantly moving forwards, linear momentum only occasionally disrupted by the odd cheeky fill. Add some rolling snares, jackin’ claps and some subtly freaky futuristic sound design touches and we have what’s known in the game as a proper banger. Also up on the A-side are a couple of lock grooves for the lesser spotted techno DJ’s that actually still play vinyl.

Over on the flip ‘Reversing Into Tomorrow’ again is very classic Downwards in techno mode - monotone, repetitive, metallic funk with but with updated contemporary production flair, yet still pretty gritty. I can just imagine a dancefloor heaving with sweaty bodies, jaws and chins contorting as they try to grasp the gurgling black gunge they imagine dripping from the clubs ceiling when ‘New Departures’ blasts out of the system. Proper dark and mucky action on this one. Well worth snagging a copy for this one alone.
