My mum tells me that I’m the Perfect Son, so I’m not really sure what this fella’s playing at. Get off my turf, Perfect Son! Anyway, the artist born Tobiasz Biliński and known for a few years as Coldair has come out swinging on Cast, his first LP for Sub Pop. Cast is a record of brash, confident electro-pop of the Gary Numan/Depeche Mode school.

REVIEWS
Our new reviewing machine Will thrust this back in my face last week saying that it wasn't his thing at all. That was on his second day - guys got guts. I was surprised as this was on Sub Pop and despite the Depeche Mode comparisons (or maybe because of) i thought it would be ok.
What we get is dark and serious electro rock with yearning vocals and big big Numan styled synths. The band is led by Tobiasz Bilinski who has a not unpleasant voice and the music is certainly dramatic with massive synths and rainswept melodies. The surprise is that I don't totally hate it, they'd do a fine job as support on Depeche Mode's next major tour but i just can't see what Sub Pop see in this. I suppose everyone has to start somewhere and there was a time Talk Talk sounded not unlike this and look what happened to them.
For now file under unremarkable but not unpleasant.
