Travelling the world to play infinite early ambient/drone compositions at universities and museums, Eliane Radigue is one of the first pioneers of drone. Her works Geelriande and Arthesis are seemingly endless, patient, content to remain in a constant state of being. And now, for the first time, released on vinyl.

- Geelriandre / Arthesis by Eliane Radigue
9/10 Richard 30th November 2018
Eliane Radigue has recently had an amazing cd boxset released comprised of the major works in her discography, which I urge you to buy if you don't already own the contents found within. If vinyl is more your thing though you should be well chuffed that Important have decided to press this wonderful release on vinyl following two very limited and rare cd editions that were out in 2003, and 2011.
The tracks were recorded in 1972 & 1973, and are quite different to her more famous work. Both are drone pieces of course, and opener 'Geelriandre' is the lighter of the two. A gentle but insistent drone that seems to shimmer and exist somewhere in the distance. A lovely 30 minutes. 'Arthesis' is darker and reverbeates insistently, pulling you closer and worming it's way into your head. There's rumbling in the background, before things soften a little half way through. The intensity rises once more though and there's an almost womb-like muffled warm sound to the piece. Amazing stuff from an artist whose work is always essential.
