This is the fifth album from Mexican duo Lorelle Meets The Obsolete which they claim will make your head go POW! I'm looking forward to that happening and maybe it will as they suggest that it's a cross between Low's recent experimentation and Tender Buttons era Broadcast. Hopefully that has sold a few copies in anticipation.

Well well well. We need a good record for 2019 and this is certainly interesting. The press blurb compares it to the recent experimentation of Low and the electronic pop of Broadcast's Tender Buttons and at times it lives up to that billing though to get to those good bits you are going to have to put yourself through some pretty out there experimentation particularly on tracks like Unificado. The band are at their best when they marry their propensity for kraut jams with glorious melodic interludes as on Líneas En Hojas which chugs along effectively before flowering synths erupt into a golden chorus. Acción Vaciar too utilises the more electronic side of the bands oeuvre blending tight post punk guitar figures with spangling rhythms which put the band in the same category as the likes of Josefin Öhrn or even Jane Weaver.
Elsewhere though on the blazing sludge rock of Resistir the band sound sludgy -I'd maybe have preferred a full on move away from their earlier psych leanings because when they leave out the guitar tangling things are very effective indeed.
