Following the success, both critically and commercially, of their fabulous debut album, Hush, Snail Mail have decided it’s time to guide you in the direction of one of their early EPs with the reissue of 2016’s Habit. Here, they’re a three piece, led as always by Lyndsey Jordan. Unfortunately, Alex Bass isn’t playing bass on this one. 6-track EP on Sister Polygon Records.

Snail Mail's debut EP 'Habit' has been through many incarnations. First as a cassette/digital release way back in 2016, then a vinyl release in 2017, then a reissue in 2018, and now Matador have decided to join the party with a remastered version in this the year of our lord 2019. It's pretty standard indie fare with jangly guitars and a solid, chugging drum and bass backing.
When listening to some of this record I'm reminded a tiny bit of Kurt Vile in his 'b'lieve i'm going down...' phase, all country-tinged guitars and simple arrangements. None of the songs had an especially great impact but I enjoyed the proto-punk chug of 'Thinning' and the post-rock stylings of 'Static Buzz'.
Perhaps this record should have been kept to its cassette-only release and I won't make listening to the EP a 'Habit' (ha), but lovers of indie tinged with garage rock and jangle pop will jump at the chance to get this new shiny remastered version.
