Someone at 4AD has decided that it’s probably about time they got round to reissuing some old Breeders records. It might have something to do with the fact that Kim Deal et al released their first LP in ten years earlier on in 2018. It’s definitely got something to do with Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. Anyway, 1992’s Safari EP is still good after all these years. Sounds like Breeders with a hint of Breeders.

Bought this back in the day on digipack cd, as vinyl was bobbins back then. Or so we were told. Nice to see it reissued on wax though as it's a cracking ep. I remember being very excited by this, as 'Pod' was one of my favourite albums at the time. This though was a little different. Wheras 'Pod' was stripped right back, there are hints of the fuller, catchier sound that was evident on the follow up 'Last Splash'. Main track 'Do You Love Me Now?' faetures on 'Splash', but the three b-sdies are worth the cash. 'Don't Call Home' collapes in on itself rather brilliantly, 'Safari' includes lots of 'oohs and ahhs' and sounds a lot like Throwing Muses, and closer 'So Sad About Us' is pretty damn uplifting despite it's title. 12 minutes of excellence in all.
