Lots of ways to evoke trains in music. We could scarce forget Lord Buckley’s ‘The Train’ from ‘69, and Kraftwerk did a splendid synthetic job in ‘77 with Trans-Europe Express. Highly influential US composer Steve Reich’s own contribution to this genre (traincore), a sumptuous rhythmic work performed by Kronos Quartet, came in ‘89 through Nonesuch, and now they’re reissuing it. Also present is the equally beautiful ‘Electric Counterpoint’, performed by Pat Metheny.
